Was at the San Diego Zoo, and came across 3 very lovely hibiscus that I'm betting are HVH cultivars.  Hoping someone can ID them for me, as I'd love to add them to my garden, especially the first one.  The last one I believe is 'Rainbow Christy', one of Charlie's original awesome hibiscus.  Which I have in my yard, but it may be either declining, or getting crowded out, as I haven't seen it bloom this year  Sad:

Thanks so much!

Patty, the first one is Rosalind and the third is probably Rainbow Christie. I don't know the second one. Perhaps Charlie can ID it for you.

Glad to be of some help. I think you will really like Rosalind. It's definitely one of my favorites--a great bloomer on a strong and well shaped bush. If it is hard to find, you are welcome to take cuttings from mine.

Thanks for the offer, Erny.  I may take you up on the cuttings - can't find it anywhere right now.

Are you in southern California? If so, come to the SoCal Hibiscus Club meeting at my house (in North Tustin) on September 27th and take some cuttings then.

I am, Erny.  Where are you located?  I'm in N. San Diego county.  That would be great, I hear you've got quite the garden.

I'm in North Tustin just a few miles north of the 405 Fwy and about one mile east of the 55. I'll look forward to seeing you at the meeting. If you happen to be in the area before then feel free to drop by. My address is 1081 Tropic. You won't have any trouble telling which house is mine.

Thanks so much, Erny!  I should be able to come, that would be great.  And, if I'm up your way before then, I'll let you know.  I have to go to El Segundo on Sept 8th, and planned on stopping by my mother-in-law's on the way back down (Newport Beach), so if I have time, I could jump on the 55 and come up to visit.  Sounds like your place is surrounded by multiple hibiscus, then, I take it  Wink

That middle picture is one named Gypsy Music. I sold all these to the SD Zoo at least 10 years ago and they have been there near the Flamingo exhibit ever since. Some of them are huge!

Hah.  I knew those were all yours, Charlie.  Good to know.  Now, to try to track these three down.  Not sold anywhere that I can find.  I may have to take Erny up on his offer.  And, I've got to try to make it back behind my pond to see if my 'Rainbow Christie' is still alive and well.  I haven't seen a bloom from it in a year  Cry

Hey, Erny, I have to drive up to LAX on Monday to be there at 8:00 am.  Would you be around if I were able to stop by on my way back?  I was going to stop in at my mother in law's in Newport Beach to have lunch with her, and I could run up the 55 from her place and stop by after lunch if you're around?  I'd love to see your hibiscus and whatever cuttings you'd be able to spare me.  Thank you!

That would be great, Erny.  I am not sure exactly how long I'll be up in Los Angeles, but I can text you when I'm on my way back.  My email is hoosierquilt@aol.com if you want to take this conversation over to email.  I'd love your address, and I thank you so much for the offer!
