Louis & Chris, We're covering three of the four corners of the country here. Chris, I'm sure you know if we're getting the sunshine you're getting the rain & snow. Wow, your plants are really looking much improved!! That is worth celebrating for... Louis, that is a LOT of snow. I can't imagine trying to get around too much without fearing for my car and life. Are you prisoner in your homes for the next week? Thank God for our plants and the forum. How about a hibiscus growers exchange program (plants included). I won't tell you that it was 79 today with low humidity...a little extra fertilizer for the plants today to take advantage of good growing opps and start to repair the damage from all the rain and cold of December. oh farmer, you are killing me. good grief.....palm trees.
i am only confined to the house during the storms. i dig myself out as quick as i can. i may not have anywhere to go, but i want to be able to go there if it moves me.
an exchange would be great, i have thought about it several times.

Beautiful Black Dream bloom for today. Several different perspectives.
This plant just now measures 42" and keeps growing as if it is still summer. Got it as a 2 gallon plant back in June.

OK, reaching the post limit for one day.
Bridal Path blooms from yesterday didn't even make it past the 12 hour mark. Even winter here in So Cal is hard on these plants as it shows through the lack of longevity in the blooms. Usually BP blooms last me 4 to 5 days and it is in a somewhat shady spot.

Hi Louis, Yup, only one bulb, 7 bucks. I got it from a grow shop, it peaks in the red and blue range of the color spectrum, so it promotes growth and flowering (so they say) pretty cheap set up  Darren, great blooms! And nice neighborhood, reminds me of larchmont:) Hopefully someday I can have a nice tropical garden like you! My next plan is to move to HI |

You're a genius, this is Larchmont. You didn't by chance live in this area previously? That would be quite the coincidence.
Yeah, let's talk Hawaii. That is my plan some day...God knows me and Mrs Farmer D go there often enough. Talking to the transplants there the consensus is to stay there for several months then back to original home for a month or two and repeat cycle.
Just got to figure out how to achieve that financially.
If it wasn't for Hawaii and all the hibiscus there I wouldn't be here on the forum today.
Sounds like karma to me...sunglasses for sure!

Haha, your pics definitely looked familiar:P. My grandma lives near there, we walk to village pizza every time we visit her Hawaii would be awesome, people worry about Island fever, but anything I could possibly want is there: scuba, hiking, surfing, warm, asian food, and of course hibiscus Now if I can just find a position there... The Hollywood hibiscus never gets old, haha |

Gorgeous photos Farmer D and Louis. Drastic difference between your environments lol.
Chris, the bulb was only $7? Did you have to buy the ballast (isn't that what it's called) as well? I might invest in another light or two having seen the difference it makes.

Hi Jordan, yeah the bulb was only 7 and the reflector was only 8,so it was pretty inexpensive. Only downside is these lights can only illuminate around 2 feet from the center of the bulb.

Valentines Day torture. Been over 2 weeks w/ all these buds and still no change. Next four days in the 80s so lets see if the heat is what's needed.

helllllllllloo, a few from today. first bloom on tsunami, real neat bloom, nice and crinkly and super color. the colors are accurate, maybe a little bold being in the morning light. also a nice bon temps. louis    |
