Mold/Fungus Growth in potted Hibiscus
«

I live in Tampa Florida where right now we are in the rainy season, it rains just about every afternoon... I noticed last week that one of my potted plants have a white mold/fungus covering the top soil. Tonight while checking the plants I noticed my healthiest plant had two huge yellow mushrooms with several smaller ones all over the soil. Is there anything I can use to prevent the soil from getting mold or fungus??
Thanks for your help!!

Interesting question. California is so dry - almost no rain from May until December in the southern part - we do not see this problem. I hope someone with some experience or knowledge about mushrooms will add something here because I know little to nothing about them. Offhand I would not think they pose much of a problem but could be wrong about that. I would remove them as a precaution in any case.

I have had the same problem with my flower beds, that were prepared by a nursery using there 'flower bed mixture". I had a mushroom farm for a while there, but as the soil aged (2 years), now that problem has gone away. I have never had a problem with fungus or mushrooms using the HVH potting soil, and all my Hibiscus are potted in that. We also have high humidity and high temperatures here in Dallas. It has to be in the potting soil mixture.
