Medium growth speed in my experience. It's a stout bush, strong and upright, not a wimpy or dainty thing as one might expect from the fancy flower. It will hold up well in a pot or in the ground. I recently sent someone a 6 inch pot with some buds - Chris or was it you, Kerry? I have 4 inch ones now, too, that have been shipping as of late. There aren't many in existence, fewer than 25 I think, but more in the future. I was glad to see that it continued to bloom during the summer heat this year, although smaller than usual.

I told my self I would not buy any more uknown parent hibiscus , But when I was 16 I wanted this cv so badly lol. When i saw it available I was shocked because every time I look for it its never for sale. I hope it does good at ,my apt. ( you should expect some crosses with this one from me  ) This one reminds me of Amethyst heart In some pictures Except it has red eye and not purple. |

Chris, your 6" pot of Haute Couture was grafted. This is one that can be done either way and seems to me to grow the same either way. Rooting it takes longer so I graft some instead of waiting the months it takes to actually root.
I wasn't sure which plant to have packed in your order and put both a grafted and an own root one side by side to compare. They were almost identical except that the grafted one had buds that looked like they would survive shipping. I'm glad to hear that they did. I am curious what type of flower will open in your indoor space this winter. I suspect HC will not have the yellow spots since it does not have them in our winter greenhouse but your apartment will stay warmer than the greenhouse at night so the flowers could be different than what I see here in winter.

Thats good to know about HC. The plant you sent is really great so thank you  The buds look like they are ok, but it will probably be a week until we are out of the clear. It came just in time too, I woke up this morning to an inch of snow on the ground, so I am glad it was sent out before the freezing weather. Funny enough next week will be in the mid sixties again, geez this place has werid weather. I currently have a sea of green, but I am hoping that I will be getting some blooms very soon and will post pics |

Chris, I look forward to seeing your photos of the hibs in bloom. Maybe some with snow in the background! Cindy really misses the snow - her only view of it is on the distant mountain peaks we can see from our driveway. Visiting snow covered mountains is good enough for me but one day in the far future she thinks we might move to the mountains. When she says that I picture a log cabin with a big glass greenhouse attached!

Funny enough charlie, Time for magic was blooming when we had snow and i almost took the bloom outside to take a pic. I hope I can get my DB to bloom when there is snow, it would make a great holiday picture imo |

I agree Charlie the speed of growth seems to be normal , I was not expecting it to bud this quickly.

Lots of color in that bloom, Chris! The reds are emphasized as we would expect in winter. I was a little concerned that you might not get good color indoors but this bloom proves that idea wrong. Thanks for posting.
By the way, our next newsletter has an article that Cindy wrote about why flower colors change with the seasons. She uncovered some details that are new to me!

Hi Charlie, The bloom is very bold and vibrant! I didnt expect the colors to work together, but they do. The brown and light purple veins leading to red is something u need to see to truly appreciate. On the other hand my Wild Dream has been blooming in pastel colors flecked with white, also quite pleasing. Whats also interesting to me is I got one bloom off Acapulco Gold yesterday and it was a whopping 9 1/2 inches across. I always thought flowers were supposed to be smaller in the winter/indoors, I guess my Acapulco gold doesnt play by that game, or really behave like it is supposed to. It looks like burnished gold will be blooming any day now, so I will be posting pics of those -Chris |
