My Daisy Mae has a terrible root system!

I have a few questions regarding my Daisy Mae. I had it in a 4 inch pot for quite a while, then a few months ago I decide to repot into a 6 in pot and pruned a few spots. I noticed it hadn't done very well like other repotted hibs so I decided to plant it in a larger pot. When I took it out of the 6 in container I noticed that the root system was mostly brown and practically non-existant. I'm surprised that it is still alive. At least 70% of the root ball just fell off. So my question is, is there anything else I can do for it? It is now in a larger pot with better soil and in full sun for most of the day. Should I put it in the shade until it has time to grow some better roots? Also, I think that the soil I switched to after the 4 in pot was too heavy and held too much water. This plant has never bloomed and I've had it for at least a year.

Eriana, I think you've got it figured out. Leave it in the sun is my opinion.

I recently had feedback from a national grower and supplier of box stores about Daisy Mae. He said it bloomed more and with bigger flowers than any other cv he was trying in a very hot growing range.

Eriana and Charlie, I couldn't agree more. I planted my Daisy Mae two years ago where it gets  all day direct sun in a southern exposure. Not only is it my most prolific bloomer but, unlike almost all other cvs, it never stops flowering.

I was doing some "inspecting" today and found a bud! I'm so excited for this one to finally bloom. I thought it was going to die, but now I have high hopes.
