Hello all

I was finally able to join this great forum after lurking about for 2 months or so.  I am completely new to hibiscus, and growing plants in general, but I am very excited about my plants arriving from HVH. 

I live on the water in Bayou Vista, Texas - that's in Galveston County near Houston.  I lost all my landscaping except palm trees with Hurricane Ike, and my original thought was to replace the planted box store hibiscus with something a little more unusual.  I fell in love with HVH and decided to go all out.  I have ordered Splash (4-6 inch), Party Girl (2-4inch), Rainbow Sherbert (2-4inch), Deep Waters (2-6 inch), and Bright Horizon (2-4inch). 

I work out of the country, and work for 4-1/2 weeks off the coast of Brazil, then home for 3-1/2 weeks.  Last time home, I received the 2 Rainbow Sherberts and 1 of the Bright Horizon's.  I also bought a single Pink Lemonade at the Space City Hibiscus Show.  The rest will be waiting for me when I get home  - hopefully in less than 2 weeks!  (So many thanks to Cindy for accomodating my schedule)

I set up a drip system, with the 3/4 gal EZ Flo fertilizer.  All the plants will go on my elevated catwalk between my house and the top of my boathouse. 

I see that there are several forum members in my area, and am looking forward to everyone's advice and help. 

I am enjoying this so much already.  Although it takes several minutes for each photo,  I look at the Forum's - May Blooms almost every day. 

I am slowly reading thru all the posts on all the various topics as well.

Welcome to the forum Capt J. It's always great to get a new member who exhibits a high degree of enthusiasm. You are starting out with a nice group of hibiscus cultivars and, since they are from HVH, will be healthy and vigorous plants. If you get as caught up in this as many of us you will soon be looking for more places for your growing collection. You will know that you're hooked when you find yourself getting up at three AM in order to grab some cvs from the monthly HVH store update. John in the Houston area (Doll) can probably give you a lot of good advice about the care and feeding of hibiscus in your area. We lookforward to seeing pictures of your setup and your plants with their blooms.

Glad to have you here too Capt J!  I second Erny's comments and really love your enthusiasm.  Fire away with any questions you have as you start down the learning curve of growing these amazing plants.  Every location is unique to how best to grow exotic hibiscus so get ready to take bits and pieces from others' experience.

And when you can post those pics - can't wait to see your set up.
