Hibiscus Gardens Around the World

Vista, California, U.S.A.

Hibiscus, palms and other tropical plants flourish in Len's San Diego garden

This is Len. His garden is the newest addition to our Worldwide Garden webpages. Len and his family live in Vista, California, just north of San Diego. The climate in the San Diego area is ideal for hibiscus and people alike ~ warm and balmy year-round, but not hot like other parts of California.

Len started with a palm garden, and added hibiscus plants for color.

Len has been growing palm trees for many years, and his garden displays a huge collection of palms from all over the world. He began adding hibiscus to his tropical palm garden about 10 years ago for color and contrast. The result is a beautiful mix of tropical plants with something to look at in every nook and cranny.

The youngest gardener in the family, Taylor, with the 'Wild Grape' plant she saved

Len's little daughter, Taylor, gardens right alongside her dad. She plants baby palm trees and waters them every day with an eye dropper. A couple of years ago, Len bought a 'Wild Grape' hibiscus plant, but thought it wasn't doing very well, so he wanted to get rid of it. He gave it to Taylor and told her she could play with it. Taylor planted it next to her sandbox. She watered it every day, and now it is lush, beautiful, and covered with flowers! Taylor's thumb is certainly as green as her daddy's!

Len's garden is huge, with beautiful plantings everywhere ~ far too many to show here. Below are more examples of how he has used hibiscus plants in his tropical garden.

Thank you, Len and Taylor, for sharing your beautiful hibiscus garden with us!
