Lost tag on this one so it remains a mystery unless some info surfaces. It's an upright grower, medium vigor, branches well. The few I have are pretty plants, nice looking foliage.

I'm glad it arrived in good shape, Kerry. Deep Purple has continued to grow into very nice bushes with pretty solid purple flowers. When I think back to how bad the bushes of lavender/blue flowers were 10 years ago - well, they've come a long way, baby!

Kerry, if the temperature is cool where you are that is the most likely reason. When my Deep Purple bloomed over the winter they were reluctant to open all the way. Now that it is warm they open up with no problem.

Deep Purple bloomed for me and it has some spots Smiley

I am not sure if it opened all the way but will post pictures once I get home.

Kerry, just push it open gently - that usually works on the reluctant ones. Anytime hibiscus are being grown indoors, under artificial lights, on balconies, or any other situation that is not natural to them they can do strange things as they react to the local conditions. Usually it is not a big problem and is often temporary so you just have to go with it and see what happens.

I have mine outside and I have noticed that it does not like to fully open too. Currently it is the only one of some 40 varieties  have that does this right now. Odd.
