Hey Charlie,

I got a Deep Waters at the store opening and am wondering if there's anything else you know about it other than the info on its page.  I see it's a Space Oddity x Creme de Cacao cross; good sized flower.  I don't have CDC but Space Oddity has been such a great cv for me that I'm really looking forward to growing DW.  Do the colors fade like the flowers of SO or does the edge retain that nice orange color?

Hi Jordan,

I think you'll like Deep Waters. I have photos of it taken on 4 different days, different months actually. They all show the bright colors but no doubt enough time, temperature, or direct sun will fade the colors. Space Oddity opens with great colors but is one of the worst faders I still grow. I don't think Deep Waters will fade as much as SO.

Below is a photo of Deep Waters. One of the things I like about it are the many colors, some subtle, that appear in the blooms. I attached this one a little larger than normal so that the colors are easier to see. (Click photo for full size image).

Deep waters is beautiful, I missed it, but Luck be a Lady looked similar, so I got that one.  Added bonus, those cool leaves Smiley  Does LBAL also fade?  Good bloomer?  Any other comments you might have would be awesome!

I also got LBAL!  Jordan, I knew you were going to go for that one!  Really pretty.

DW almost reminds me of Sleeping Beauty as well, perhaps brighter but similar bands of color.

Jordan, this is a good example of getting to the same colors by totally different routes. Sleeping Beauty was the surprise offspring of Love Story and Living Legend, probably due to the influence of The Path and other distant ancestors. Sleeping Beauty also has a different type of hibiscus leaf and bush, not like Fascinating Foliage plants but unique in its own way.

Here are the first blooms of Deep Waters that I just received last week.

Seems so far that the blooms are rather temperature sensitive as the more orange ones opened during cloudy weather.

I thought these photos would be handy to see Deep Waters in action during it's first day of blooming.  The color change is really nice, it's as if someone has grafted two different cvs on the same plant.

I'm very happy with this cv and think I chose a good spot for it where it gets shade until about 2pm and then sun until 6pm.  This lets those pretty opening orange and grey colors linger for half the day before the sun then fades it to a gentle yellow and white.
