Hi Charlie,
I am trying to assemble my hibiscus dream list. I really like over the rainbow with its yellow edging. Is this one that will be offered sometime in 2011?
thanks

Over The Rainbow is really beautiful. I seem to always sell too many of them and end up short the next year. This year I'm trying to build them up again but there will be at least a few available in 2011.

Charlie, I noticed that Over The Rainbow has been out since 2004. What about it keeps it from being a tried and true variety?

Doll, besides selling too many each year (which means less wood for new plants the following year), Over The Rainbow is not a good rooter. It roots just enough not to put it on the "needs grafting" list but not enough to get many plants. We've had some every year but they disappear fast and are easy to miss. Some go overseas and some to waiting list people so it's possible they don't appear on the store at all some years. I'll try to do better with this one in the future.
By the way, we've had some email asking how to get on the "store restocking alert" list. This is run by the same software that sends out the newsletter but to receive the alerts it is necessary to put your email address on the list. Once that is done, you will receive the alert when the store is restocked once or twice a month. To get on the list you can either use the sign-up that now appears on the top left of every page of the web site or you can go to the Contact HVH page by clicking on that link in the left side navigation bar. In both cases just follow the instructions to update your profile and you will end up on a page that lets you select either one of or both the HVH Newsletter and the Store Restocking Alert.
