I have been debating whether to get this cultivar. Just curious how it does in hot weather. Also is it a prolific bloomer? Charlie, do you have any other pics of this one?

Doll, Hot Pepper is an Aussie cv, so it does really well in hot weather. Mine is in souther exposure and gets sun pretty much all day. It does just fine even though midday temps here hover between 95 and 105 F. Nice full bush and not a yellow leaf yet, even on the hottest days (w/ Plenty of water of course!). As far as blooming, mine has been pruned so I can't answer that... yet.

Jordan describes Hot Pepper well. For me, if you like the look of this flower then the rest of it - bush, blooming traits, resistance to problems - is all very good, well above average for exotic hibiscus. If you like the flower you will love having this cv. Below are a couple of photos - one inside our office and one inside the greenhouse.

I am very happy with my Hot Pepper plant. As advertised it grows rather easily, loves to branch, seems to be pretty disease resistant, and blooms a lot. It likes the heat and I water the daylights out of it and it seems to enjoy it.
So my question here as on the photos of the month topics: is mine Hot Pepper? The flowers look somewhat different with the fuscia eye and reflexed blooms. Also my leaves are really round, no pointy tips to them as my plant is now in it's second year of in ground life.
If it isn't HP I don't mind at all as I find the color contrast between the orange and fuscia to be an amazing combo.

Darren I would say that is Hot Pepper, I had my doubts before but looking at them pics I would say definitely yes.

Yes, I've made a lot of crosses with Hot Pepper. Unfortunately, I seemed to have been a little late planting a lot of the seedlings this year and many did not bloom before the cold weather hit. So far the flowers I've seen from HP crosses have been on the simple side, not bad but not great either. My favorite so far was from a cross with Rainbow Sherbet, photo below. I still have high hopes for the remaining crosses and expect to see a lot of results next summer.

That cross has the potential to be an excellent bloomer with lots of flowering stems.

I ordered one today. I think it has a good chance of doing well in the Texas heat.
Do you think the Rainbow Sherbert x Hot Pepper will be available later this year?

The bush needs hardly any pruning to shape, but must be thinned out. It doesnt bllom for me until end of July and the colors dont really pop as they fade quickly in the sun.

Len, your bush shows why I like Hot Pepper. It blooms great in warmer areas, presents the blooms well, and grows very nicely. I've got several more seedlings from it that I will show in the hybridizing board as I get photos of them. The flowers have been brightened up considerably using Simple Pleasures, Firestorm and other cvs that also have good bushes to cross with.
JohnD, I just saw your earlier question, sorry for the late answer. No, none of the new Hot Pepper crosses like the one shown below will be available in 2012. Some should be in the January, 2013 store opening and others introduced later in the spring.
