We made a mistake with Splash last year and sold almost all of them. Twas a setback for that variety but I hope to remedy it soon.
Spice Island I gave up on rooting, but will graft some because this is one of the best bloomers I've grown.

I was rereading the forum and was surprised to find nobody has really commented on Splash! yet, so I'll start the ball rolling. I just put mine outside again, as the weather has just gotten warm enough to start putting the larger plants outside. I got my Splash! as a 4" pot last year and have been very pleased with it.
My specimen has been a good grower, though not very upright like the description says. This could be due to the fact that I was hosing the leaves off a lot last year when the mites came back around, which made the branches heavier and floppier. It has only bloomed a couple of times for me so far, as it got a couple of really good prunings. The bloom colors were gorgeous last year and I'm looking forward to learning more about Splash! this summer. I'll have to post a bush photo tomorrow when it's not so windy here. It's so tall! The leaves are also large and the bush lush... all good things!

Thanks, Jrodan, I look forward to your photos of Splash! Recently a good group of Splash babies came out of the propagation room so I expect it to be available again probably in a March update to the store.

I brought Splash! amongst others inside again because it got colder here. I keep hoping I'll be able to leave them out. Should be soon now. It seems they're ok down to 40 if they're not teeny and there's no wind... I left my big Space Oddity and Purple Magic out when the low was supposed to be 35 and they were ok too. I'm not trying to push it, though!

The effects of cold on hibiscus are cumulative. In other words, one night down to 30F does minimal harm, but 2 in a row is worse, and 3 in a row can be fatal to them. Similarly, last year when we had overcast and cool temperatures from March through June the effect of day after day of these temperatures was later blooming, less growth, and an overall "off" summer for our outdoor hibiscus garden. Point is - temperatures that are acceptable for one day/night may turn out to be disastrous if they continue day after day.

Well to start you sent me a huge 6" Splash earlier this summer so that was impressive as it was way over 3ft tall. So far it has been a very maintenance free plant that likes to bud and it is growing very nicely too. I just measured it and it is 4ft tall now and has three main branches that are growing quickly.
Only thing about it is that the branches are quite thin and tend to flop. I have staked up the tallest one and will do the same for the others. My thinking here is to maybe prune it down when the peach tree above it loses it's leaves in several weeks and it will get a lot more sun. I'm hoping that will encourage thicker and stronger branches.
Here is a pic of it from today, you can see I am holding up one of the side branches as it is growing more horizontal due to the thinner branches. For where I planted it I think it is a good fit as it is a tight space and there are other hibiscus in front of it and I needed something tall and maybe even a little thin and Splash fits the bill here perfectly. Also the bright multi-colored splashy blooms stand out even in the shade of the peach tree.
