You are right there is not much written on Pineapple Sundae, well i think its a fantastic cv, as far as i am concerned it is head and shoulders above any cv i have for heat and sun tolerance,  it also blooms more than any cv i have so i am surprised. It's also is the only cv i have that regularly blooms more than one day, i will have to prune it soon so i am really hoping i have success with growing the cuttings.

Well, that throws a wrench into my plans to oust Pineapple Sundae from the greenhouse. It also shows how complex hibiscus are and how challenging it is to select the ones to keep and the ones to toss. When young and growing vigorously in 6 inch pots this variety is soft stemmed and floppy. It grows rapidly upward and then flops over to the side and it does not branch as much as I would like.

But, and it's a big BUT, the qualities that you describe are very important ones. I see that you have staked the plant using 2 poles but that does not seem to bother you at all and the other qualities far outweigh the need to stake it for you. My hope has been that Pineapple Sundae would harden up as it matures and would become a good plant for people but I haven't received much feedback about this variety so did not know. It also roots very well and your chance for success with cuttings is excellent once you figure out how to do it in your conditions.

Thanks for these comments, its a help to hear these things.

Hi Tanya, that's amazing that you are having success with PS in Russia, you can see above what i think of this cv and i live in Vietnam.  Pineapple Sundae conquers the world, I think Charlie is going to need to grow a few more.

Hey Fro,

Thats a beautiful flower, but I think you have Pina Colada there,  All of Pineapple sundae's looks feature a prominent red eye, which yours seems to missing.  The fancy shape of the bloom also matches up with Pina Colada too.  Lucky to have that one, its a great one Smiley

I wish we could claim that plants are never mistagged, but it does happen. We do better now than 5 years ago but there are many steps in making a new plant when the tag can be mixed up. Even so, out of the many thousands of plants shipped every year we only hear about 10 or so with tag problems. There are probably more that we don't hear about but the mistag rate is way below 1 percent and we continue to try to make it zero percent.

Fro, in this case it is not too bad since both are yellow and Pina Colada is the better plant. Not too many people have hot weather issues like David in Vietnam where Pineapple Sundae is at its best.

Pina Colada was one of my better growers and bloomers, but I lost it this year. Charlie will you be having any more available, or has it been replaced by newer varieties?

thanks,
