Dave, that photo you posted shows the standard flower of Tangerine Dreams. It's possible that your local summer conditions in the high desert caused a change that is temporary. Keep us posted, please.

Tangerine Dream update. I brought it inside the house about 3 weeks ago and blooms are much improved over what I saw during the summer. This one is a bit reflexed but the color is much better than the earlier summer photo I posted. It seems to dislike heat.

I don't think that yellow version is really Tangerine Dream. While hibiscus vary quite a lot with conditions, the eye color does not change. The eye can be larger or smaller but I don't recall ever seeing it go from one color to another. Tangerine Dream has a silvery white eye as shown in the first picture posted by roadrunner. But I never say never with hibiscus because these babies can fool you by doing something never seen before. Even so, the yellow version is so different from the flowers I've seen of Tang.Dream that I have to doubt it is the real thing or wonder if it could be a genetic sport on that stem.

I got this one from you I think 2 years ago. I always thought it looked different then what people were posting. it does change in summer/fall. I will post a pic then too. One thing about thi plant is I have a hard time keeping it green. It likes to yellow.

Charlie, here are some more shots. I love this version as it is really soft in color but glows in the garden.

Great Tangerine Dream, aren't its cooler weather colors awesome?

Its not Cosmic Gold, the leaves on Cosmic Gold are very different, with reddish stems, really cool.  The flowers have a heavier texture than Tangerine Dream, this is just a cool weather flower.

It is like this year round. It has not been too cool although we are getting close. Here it was in Summer.

Good call, Chris. Midnight Sun does have the golden yellow eye although most of my photos of it show brighter colors. However, a few photos I have are almost identical to the ones Len posted. Below is the more colorful version that we see in summer along with a spring bloom.

Charlie, I think it was a random sport and I ended up with it. I bought this from you as Tangerine Dream and I have never seen a flower look like Tangerine Dream or what you just showed as Midnight Sun in summer. After seeing Midnight Sun, I now want one of those too Smiley

hmmm Sports are super rare, so being a mismarked plant is more likely.   What year did you get the plant?  The bloom also kinda reminds me of Apricot Butter.

Whatever it is, at least it s a pretty one!
