Climax, like so many HOTY winners, does not get much attention. However, I had a bloom on it the other day that knocked my eyes out. The bush is fair, nicely upright, somewhat slow growing in my conditions. It also does not bloom a lot for me and the blooms in cooler weather weren't anything special. Still, that one bloom I had in the full heat of this summer was excellent, extremely bright and about 7 inches. I am still watching it to see how it does as it matures, and trying some cuttings to see if it roots. It probably does not do so well or somebody would be rooting it already.

Below is a photo of the excellent bloom from that day, although it was the day my camera was knocked into an unintended setting that messed up the exposure. The photo shows the intense colors of that bloom pretty well anyway.

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for sharing your experience with it.  That flower looks really bright, but if it doesn't bloom too well then it might be better to find another cv with the color scheme and better blooming.

Yes, Okianer, your photo is more typical of what I have seen, too. The flower is nice enough but not a strong attention getter except when the weather is very hot. At least that is my explanation for why the one bloom I photographed was so bright that day. Do you remember the temperature on the day you took this photo?

I like Climax enormously. It has a nice bush, is a moderate grower, and blooms profusely. The only downside in my climate is that it tends not to fully open in summer, in the greenhouse. The outside plants open their blooms well.

I've got to say so far I am really impressed with this cv.  The bush is strong and vigorous and it likes to bloom.  The blooms are fun too as they open orangy-red and then the eye slowly defines itself with a pretty silver and fuchsia.  Large sized too getting close to 9" just on the first couple I've had so far.

Some updated bloom shots of Climax.  The growth on this plant has been phenomenal and is ignoring all efforts of winter to slow her down so far...only thing is that it is in pure growth mode without any buds last two months.
