I'm a little late getting this new board for 2020 up but here it is, better late than never. Anyone looking to see flower photos might want to go back to 2019 where there is a new post of a new variety from a member in Russia.

This is the time of year when we make new seeds to grow in the coming year, from which we choose the very best to name and offer to hibiscus enthusiasts. We also look back at the newest flowers from 2019 and see how they are doing during winter weather.

I thought you might like to see some of those. Remember, these are not named or available yet but if everything works out they will be later in 2020 or in 2021.

This one reminds me of winter holidays - sparkly and colorful. A little small as are most Magic Crystal babies, but who cares with colors like these!

These next 2 new flowers show how the same cross of parents can yield similar but distinct results. These 2 came out of the same seed pod which was a cross of Dancing Dragon with Pinot Noir (pollen). I suspected the result would be dramatic and indeed both these flowers are more intense in color than the 2 parents. The second flower also has the Fascinating Foliage trait from Pinot Noir but the flower form is a bit wild (looks to be sailing into the wind, doesn't it?). The first flower has a lot of promise for later release.

Here are 4 more you might like to see, all new and possibly available in the future.

Enlightenment x Carmel Dawn. Expect a strong bush and flowers with intense tropical color.

19-0003 great pink color and interesting flower form

My Blue Heaven x Chianti Classico. Still sorting out the best of the best in blue and red flowers - will this one make the cut? We'll see.

Moonstruck x T Imperial Queen. A real beauty with multiple rings of color, another hybridizing goal at HVH.

Wow Charlie! All of those are wonderful seedlings! Sure hope they all pan out. It is always fascinating to see how seeds from the same pod can vary to such extents. What a fun and exciting activity it is to hybridize exotic hibiscus. There is nothing better in my opinion in the plant world as far as such dramatic results.

You the man! I hope the everyone realizes how fortunate we are that you do what you do.

Winter started very early this yr which for So Cal is early November. But the hibs have hung tough and have not stopped blooming much even though with all the rain in Nov & Dec I have had the drip system off since early Nov.
