One 3 foot high bush of Cranberry Muffin has been blooming a lot lately. I'm really liking the size of the blooms which have been at least 8" and quite colorful too. One day it had 2 and a week later there were 3 blooms open the same day. They are turning out to be 3 day blooms and it appears that this one sets seed. At least pods are developing. Here's a photo from the day it had 2 blooms open.

wow those are very nice blooms. I am happy I got cranberry muffin.

I was looking at butter cup and blushing maiden, both have Gerald Derr as the father.  As I said earlier in this thread CM looks a lot like these two cv's. Since the parents of CM is unknown I am going to take a guess and say maybe Gerald Derr is one of the parents to CM.

Kerry, it's quite possible Gerald Derr was a parent. GD can grow into a huge and tall bush, which Cranberry Muffin is showing signs of doing. GD flowers show the yellow spots in summer than CM is also showing. The CM flower is turning out to be larger than Gerald Derr flowers but that can be due to the other parent or some stray genes that came forward. Anyway, I like your guess.

Thanks for posting the extra photo of CM, Charlie.  I bought this one only seeing the one picture on its info page, and I'm glad I did.  The colors are even better in this newer picture!

You will be able to identify Cranberry Muffin eventually because it will grow significantly larger than most other hibiscus by next summer. At least that is how they are in the greenhouse.

Is the growth habit of CM as vigorous as Acapulco Gold?

Jordan, CM grows about as much as Acapulco Gold but in a different way and not as fast as a fast growing AcaGold. It's had to describe, really. Anyway, CM will be a large plant, and the growth is not slow normally. Climate, etc can make a difference, too.
