I like this one also, it is more a cup and saucer than a full double Smiley

This is the first bloom, on a big, one year old plant:

And the second one is the first bloom on a small plant, grafted in March. Interesting. I wonder what the second bloom on the big plant will look like.

I just ordered my Allure today, I can't wait to see this one in person.  I'm not a big fan of doubles, but I loved the single look of this one so much I went ahead and got it.  Does it seem to be condition-specific, I mean, single vs. double?

Yes, Allure is like most doubles that have this trait, it shows as single when conditions are cooler or less sunny and double during the heat of summer. I recently took a new photo of Allure as a double that shows it a little different than I remember seeing before. Allure is a good bloomer, and the bush well suited to growing in a pot. If you pay attention to pruning and shaping it when young it can become a beautiful bush that offers a lot of flowers.

Thanks for the info... I am planning on keeping this one inside so hopefully it will bloom as a single for me!

Charlie, Here is my Allure, still doing the bud drop thing and no flowers ever. It is a healthy plant.

Wow, it has become a nice looking plant, even filling in between the 2 main branches well!

This is the kind of thing that I need to know. By that I mean that Allure won't bloom for you in mid-summer heat. Lots of buds, but they fall before opening, right? This happens with double flowered varieties a lot more than single flowered ones. Heat and/or thrips gets to them and causes stress hormones to be produced that result in flower bud drop.

Try to note what the conditions are when it finally does start to open flowers. It would be interesting to see if it is a 5 degree or 20 degree drop in temperature or anything else you note that may be different just before and during the time it shifts from dropped buds to opening flowers.

Thanks for the info,

Charlie

My Allure dropping buds the whole summer. A few days ago, with a mild cold front, it started blooming again.

John, I hope she will blossom as soon as the temperatures fall just a bit. In my area, the day temps are still very high, but the night is refreshing.
Let us know, I am very curious.

Charlie, Nina!  If finally has happened! "Bud Light" has bloomed! I will now rename her the "Amazing Allure".
It required the temperatures to drop, with only a daytime high of 78 deg, and a nightime low of 58 deg with cloudy skies and rain!
There are several more buds getting ready to bloom
Enjoy!
John

How about that! I see the plant has continued to grow well for you. You've done quite a good job this first summer of growing these new hybrids.

Nice, John!
Mine has been blooming regularly, too, since the end of summer. I am still undecided whether to keep this variety or not. If it proves to be a really good autumn bloomer, it may save itself.

Charlie, Nina: The "Bud Light Allure, has been renamed back to "Allure. She finally decided to bloom, and has she ever!  For me this is a Spring or early fall plant. A couple of pics.  This CV grows a single stem high, and lots of lateral branches. Must be time to prune her back for winter and next spring. Going to try and get more vertical growth and branches.  Thanks for your support! I did not give up on her, and next year will tell the tale of how she relly does in Texas
