This is the first bloom, on a big, one year old plant:
And the second one is the first bloom on a small plant, grafted in March. Interesting. I wonder what the second bloom on the big plant will look like.

I just ordered my Allure today, I can't wait to see this one in person. I'm not a big fan of doubles, but I loved the single look of this one so much I went ahead and got it. Does it seem to be condition-specific, I mean, single vs. double?

Yes, Allure is like most doubles that have this trait, it shows as single when conditions are cooler or less sunny and double during the heat of summer. I recently took a new photo of Allure as a double that shows it a little different than I remember seeing before. Allure is a good bloomer, and the bush well suited to growing in a pot. If you pay attention to pruning and shaping it when young it can become a beautiful bush that offers a lot of flowers.

Charlie, Here is my Allure, still doing the bud drop thing and no flowers ever. It is a healthy plant.

Wow, it has become a nice looking plant, even filling in between the 2 main branches well!
This is the kind of thing that I need to know. By that I mean that Allure won't bloom for you in mid-summer heat. Lots of buds, but they fall before opening, right? This happens with double flowered varieties a lot more than single flowered ones. Heat and/or thrips gets to them and causes stress hormones to be produced that result in flower bud drop.
Try to note what the conditions are when it finally does start to open flowers. It would be interesting to see if it is a 5 degree or 20 degree drop in temperature or anything else you note that may be different just before and during the time it shifts from dropped buds to opening flowers.

My Allure dropping buds the whole summer. A few days ago, with a mild cold front, it started blooming again.

Nina, Still no blooms, just bud drops or as I call her "Bud Light". We will see what happens this fall. I got her in May, and she has had every nutirent known to man kind. Still a very beautiful lush plant.
