Hi Everyone!
Good to be back, I really enjoyed viewing so many beautiful pictures while away from home. It's great to see some posts from members who haven't been on this topic before - so a big welcome!
First off I apologize up front for the poor quality of my pictures for the next few weeks as my water proof camera wasn't exactly water proof while doing some light snorkeling. Hopefully Sony won't be playing any games with replacing it so in the mean time I am using my iPhone from last decade...
Being away for 3 weeks the hibs look pretty good, had some help a few times when gone which really was clutch as the weather did the typical October thing and was extremely all over the place. Rained twice with a heat wave sandwiched in-between. Today we had our first Santa Ana wind event which of course was not predicted till yesterday so dry and everything a mess...
Ahhh the life of a gardener...anyways good to be back and catching up!

No doubt the plants aren't nearly as happy when I got back. One positive though was I took all my potted plants off my porch which faces the hot afternoon sun and put them in nice shady spots while away. They all improved quite a bit so I need to be a lot more serious about consistently lowering my shade curtain on my porch.

Very nice Darren, hope you had a nice time, yours and Erns photo's are a joy. I know a strange thing to complain about considering most people in the States have winter approaching but I am fed up with the heat, it just wont cool down long enough for me to get some nice blooms, I did get a few Dragons Heart [need to move the pot next time for a better photo] and the first Electric Orange this year, at least my Andeniums are loving it and am having a lovely show from the white one.

Darren, welcome back. Looks like you're already into full Farmer D mode. John, great photos. I really like your Rise and Shine and Hot Summer Nights. David, nice color on your Electric Orange. Santa Ana winds here today are beating up on the plants and keeping the blooms from looking their best but here are some morning bloomers: Voodoo Magic Heavy Metal Palm Springs Chariots of Fire Slapstick

Wow John, your HSN is just fantastic! I really like that one a lot and good to know it looks like that in cooler weather. I look forward to some blooms from mine soon, it has recovered very nicely after severe dehydration during summer.
Chris another awesome seedling bloom. Again those are some color combos I could never have dreamed up. So interesting to see, your sport is really nice too!
Erny great pics, your T Princess is looking something special today. The Santa Ana winds died down for us around midnight last night and it has been still, super dry and hot today (89F). Perfect weather for supernova spraying...
It looks like my iPad takes much better pics than the iPhone, just so hard maneuvering around the garden with such a large item.
For anyone who has thought about Crystal Pink I really am liking this one a ton more now that I moved it. The bush is filling out very nicely and the blooms are just awesome. That spiraling white eye surrounding by a mostly solid yet slightly speckled pink.

A really happy sight to see was coming back to a Prosperity plant that finally decided to leaf. I think it needed some cooler weather to do it as it's in a hot and sunny afternoon spot on my driveway. I would never have been able to know this is what it wanted until it happened. I did place a 70% shade cover over it for two months after moving it but I must have removed it too soon or maybe it would not have made a difference.
Wow it took 4 months to finally come back after replanting it. Weird thing is that I never cut the main root, just moved it to the right by only 6 inches and it hated it beyond anything I ever thought...I know it's kind of hard to see it with two geraniums flanking her.
Also interesting is my Bonnie Lass. I am quite sure now that it hates direct, hot sunlight. You can see in my planter picture below it is the only one not happy with few leaves that are all yellow. It did the exact same thing last year and that was with the clay soil prison hole it was in like all my hibs were.
It looks great until the hot weather arrives and then the yellow leaves appear and the more you water the worse it gets. I can see how easy it can be to overwater in this situation not realizing it needs to be in much different circumstances to re-establish itself and then be able to absorb a lot of water during the growing season like a normal, healthy hibiscus should.
What is dangerous here is that the plants surrounding it, COF on the left and Rainbow Sherbet on right are not getting enough water since I swiveled my sprinkler head away from that area for BL. I have been heavily watering COF and now a bunch of new leaves are appearing down low where it has been bare for about a year now. Even RS has slowly been losing leaves in the middle for quite some time too which I'm betting is due to lack of water as well.
So guess who is getting moved to the backyard to a nice shady and temperate spot?
Tutti Frutti must be a pretty tasty flower I guess. Don't rate this one by this pic as the plant is in recovery mode and the blooms I know are going to improve a lot soon.

Darren, it's good to hear that your Prosperity is coming back. Do you have a drip system for any of your planting areas? I have installed several and cut off the sprinklers completely in those areas with good effect so far. With the in-line EZ Flow fertilizer modules it makes maintenance easy and hassle-free.

Hi Erny,
Thanks for the positive input for my Prosperity. I am excited to see it start growing again - this plant had so much vigor beforehand so I expect a fast rebound.
As for the drip line idea I currently have two planters with it. The problem I ran into when I tried out a few of my bigger planters last year is water pressure. I am using a previously installed sprinkler system that for each zone has quite a few heads so using one for the drip line and turning off some of the other heads I thought would keep the pressure about the same but it didn't. The end result was the latter half of those drip lines the water wasn't reaching to. And that is without any pressure regulator attached to the drip connection.
My thinking is I would have to add new water valves just for the drip lines but I already have 8 valves and the expense and time to dig and place more pipes...the sprinklers are good for me. I actually prefer the sprinklers because I can water a lot of things besides the hibs at one time so cost and time savings there. The negative is I can't add in a fertilizing injector which would be really cool.
