Buds on Bright Horizon have refused to open all summer under various temperature and humidity conditions.  It doesn't seem to matter.  Buds are large and showing color but never open, remaining closed and cupped.  Sorry, never got around to getting any pics.  Buds are not yellow and don't fall off, just never open.  Plant is in a mild temperature greenhouse.  Bush is vigorous, beautiful, and lots of buds which never open.  Anyone else having this problem with this cultivar?  I seem to recall this being mentioned on the forum somewhere before.

Dave, my Bright Horizon has been a reluctant bloomer as well. I planted in in full sun in June or July along with a bunch of other cvs and it was one of the last to develop buds. I finally had flowers open in late August and  mid-September but had to manually help them open. Even so they remained somewhat cupped and never flattened out completely. The second one was better than the first so I do have hope that it will improve. It is a really nice flower when it does show.

Yes, same with me, I have to manually open, Transcendent is the same, it dosent really bother and make much difference with me as I tend to cut my blooms anyway and then place in a shadier spot.

Hi David.  Now I remember you were the one that posted on this a while ago.  Thanks Erny for your input too.  It's such a hot flower, would love to see one in person.  I am also so envious of your and Darren's gardens.  I wish I could grow them in the ground here. At any rate I hope to find a situation that makes it happy enough to bloom better.  Seems Charlie also mentioned something about this being a tendency for this cultivar though my memory isn't always accurate. Maybe it will be at its best in the house this winter instead of outside.  Tangerine Dream is another of mine that has a tendency for blooms to stay cupped and partially open during warmer times of the year.

thanks,
dave
