What happened to this CV ? I see it listed on Armstrong grower website. Was this another CV that did not make the cut ?

Silver Dragon is making a comeback. We have a medium size one growing in the garden and it is very floriferous (photo below). The variety did have a setback a couple of years ago and I had to identify a good, clean stock plant to become the "mother" for all new plants of this variety. That was done and we did have a small number to offer this year but I expect more next year.
It's a neat variety in that it looks to be a Dragon's Breath seedling with all the white dots and swirls but it was not from DB. It is the only decent bush that came from the many Rebellious Spirit crosses I made and is Mango Madness x Reb Spirit. If you have never seen one, Rebellious Spirit is a huge red flower on a large but very unruly bush. I got some great red and white flowers out of it, but all with difficult bushes except for Silver Dragon. SD is one of my favorite varieties and I'm glad that we should be having more to spread around in the next year or two.

Part of the reason I want a silver dragon is because it looks just like my beta. This is a pic of another that is identical to it. Just look at the resemblance!

Cool Chris!! I love betas. Too bad they have to be kept alone. I think I'm going to start a gourami tank when I move.

Chris, for this non-fish person please explain what is going on here. Is that a tail of sorts that is spread out? Does it look that way all the time or is this a mating behavior display? It is very cool, and I see the resemblance to Silver Dragon. How big is this fish?

Haha, ok Charlie. That pic is of my beta which is called a Silver Dragon, HM betta. Silver refers to the body color, Dragon refers to the body color extending into the face. (Normal betas have black/brown faces.) Half-moon (HM), describes the tail. A Half-moon beta's tail must form a 180 degree angle perpendicular to the body. In this picture this fish is showing an aggressive display, usually in the presence of a mirror or another male beta fish. Male betas are extremely aggressive towards other males, so that is why you have to keep one to a bowl/tank. The coloration is pretty much the same all the time, only during displays can you seen the finage well and this fish is about 2.4 inches. It is pretty funny that the name of this variety of beta is the name for your cv with the same coloration. Jordan: Gourami are really awesome. My favorite are probably pearl gourami, especially when the males mature and have the bright red "chest" I am setting up a huge Discus tank when I move

Hey Charlie, I was wondering what ended up happening with Silver Dragon, did you end up propagating it? Perhaps a look-a-like seedling? Thanks alot!

Hey, Chris, yes indeed I spotted the real Silver Dragon blooming not long ago. I also found the mistagged First Love and removed the Silver Dragon tag so that won't happen again. I haven't grafted any Silver Dragon plants yet but have started carrying my grafting kit around all the time so that I can do a few here and a few there and eventually cover a lot more graft only varieties.

Hi Charlie, Thanks alot for checking on that! Good thing you found that First Love, although a nice plant, I still wanted Silver Dragon I think you need to go ahead and graft a Silver Dragon for me ^_^

This is proving to be an extremely nice cv. Good bush with multiple blooms beautifully presented. I would put it in the highly recommended category. This one is less than one year old.
