It's a new one of Duponts. I like the opening colors - very dramatic in a dark sort of way. In any sun they fade fast and to my eye the badly faded flower is not pretty. Kind of like swamp mud. The bush is pretty good, upright and it branches fairly well. It does bloom well which is always a plus. The flowers are not huge in my conditions but at 6-8 inches plenty big enough for some impact, particularly with the dark coloring. I've only grown this one for one season so don't know much about long term performance. Conclusion - if the color appeals the rest of the package won't disappoint.

I'm frustrated by not having a camera right now, or I would take photos of the opening and mid-afternoon flowers. My old reliable camera just up and died and although I have an excellent new one on order it won't be here until next week sometime.

lol swamp mud...

I agree with Charlie.  My little Swamp Music has bloomed once, so this is just speaking from seeing one bloom on one plant, but I'm not as thrilled with it as I thought it would be.  I'm never up early enough in the morning to see the opening colors... ha... but by the time I had seen it, it had faded pretty bad.  This is in full sun and 85 degrees so indoors or in shade it might be better.

Also, don't know if this is a regular thing for the plant but the flower was very thin textured.  It stayed open for three days, but by the second day it was really "wilty" to the touch and had a couple holes in it.  On the third day the holes had gotten bigger.  I'm hoping these problems will be solved if I bring it indoors, because the opening colors that I've seen in photos are really pretty.

After seeing Mike's picture of this CV under cool temperatures I decided to try it out.  I got a plug of this one and I sure am glad I did.  Just looking at this young cutting, it is very well branched for being so young, so I am hoping that this translates to a nice full bush!

I have Dappled Shade as well which seems to also have a naturally well branched bush, the hybridizing potential seems good.

Swamp Music is: Evangeline x Gabriel
