Charlie, do you think this needs more sun to bring out the bright orange color. Right now it only gets about an hour of sun.

Most likely. The photos I took of it last year were in a part of the greenhouse that had no shade paint, just 1 layer of clear plastic above it. Also, being an offspring of Saffron, it is likely to share the quality of turning almost yellow in heavy shade.

Saffron sure has dominant genes!  So many of its seedlings this year display a strong resemblance to it.  Nice SOI,hopefully she will color up nice for  you!

More sun improved the color. Looks like it still needs even more sun. I've already moved it inside, but next spring I will put it in full sun.

Yes, and more sun will bring out the full blooming capacity which it what I liked the most about Star of India. A bush so covered with blooms you cannot see the bush!
