seed pods dying off
«

I have a generic red double plant that has provided plenty of seed pods previous years. this year all the seed pods seem to be dying off after about 10-20 days. there are seeds on the pods. could it be thrips affecting the developing pods? or is there anything else that causes the loss of the seed pods like this?

Summer conditions are the likely culprit. Seed making is traditionally done fall through spring because in summer heat most pods fall off after pollination.

hmm - guess i better go back and check out the weather patterns from end of june until now. I had a huge rash of seed pods set on my butterfly - so many the plant stopped blooming for the duration, but only one or two on my red double. none of my other varieties want to play yet. I unfortunately don't have a year round greenhouse, so seed making stops for me mid-fall. the plants go dormant in the winter. and this spring wasn't the best this year.
thank you!
