Title: California Beauty
Post by: topshelf12 on December 03, 2011, 07:14:37 PM
  Hi Charlie,
I was looking at the picture of California beauty on the website. I noticed the way the center of the flowers are kind of ruffled. Does that happen on each flower or only once in a while. It is such a unique hibiscus
thanks
Norm

Norm, those are called tufts and California Beauty usually shows nice tufting. In hibiscus judging ruffles and tufts are considered desirable - the tufts being on the inner edge of the petals and the ruffles referring to the outer edges of the petals.

I'm glad you like it, Angela. Like most of the HVH varieties, it will be available starting December 30 when the 2012 online store opens.

This was the last bloom I had before I brought it inside for the winter.

Sure is a beauty!  The only CV in the orange/yellow category that bloomed nicely for me in cool weather was Cosmic Gold, its cool weather blooms look better than the warm weather ones imo.  Too bad most of these bright CVs look their best in warm summer conditions.  At least my favorite red and blue CVs really love it.  I guess its a toss up :)

So for December 30th, any insider trading on times and methods ;) haha
