Title: Really Red
Post by: LJG on July 26, 2011, 08:57:26 PM
Charlie, what ever happened to this one? I got it last year and have never heard about it again. There are so many new bright reds coming out, was this the reason? I dont even see it under your Cultivar pics.

I just stuck some more cuttings of Really Red yesterday. It sold out earlier in the year and we have not had any more to offer so Cindy took it out of the store until we do. Really Red is a gorgeous offspring of Dragon's Breath and Valentine's Day.

A couple of years ago I decided to work on "reds" which have been mostly neglected in recent years despite the traditional popularity of red garden variety hibiscus. Actually, that is the reason - people wanted to see other colors as modern hybrids became popular. But, the reds we offered this year are huge, intensely colored, and very striking in my opinion and worthy of adding to any garden.

Really Red isn't a fire engine type red but has a unique color that I don't have a name for. Even the pollen sacs are red on this one! Here is a photo.
