Does anyone have this cultivar ? I would like more pictures and info on this plant

Ahh, I see that Wild Dream was accidentally left out of the Hibiscus Gallery on the HVH website. The Gallery is the place where most of the varieties we grow can be seen no matter if they are in stock or not. It is not the store but has the same info and multiple photos that the store has for each cv and they are always there for viewing. Cindy will add Wlld Dream to the Gallery as soon as she has a chance.

Wild Dream is very unusual because it is a Rosalind cross that looks nothing like Rosalind. WD is always a single unlike many Rosalind crosses that can bloom single or double. It is also the first variety that I know of that features speckles that were not caused by contamination with herbicide drift.

WD is a slow to medium grower that reaches 3-4 feet in 3 years or so. The flowers are well presented on the bush and always interesting. Below are some photos of it's different looks.

We also have a new variety that is a cross of Wild Dream with Dragon's Breath. This one is yellow with interesting things happening all around the eye. Probably available next year.

Yes, but they are on Cindy's computer and she took it with her this morning. It also has a name but I forget what we ended up with. This summer we will post photos of all the seedlings that have progressed far enough to get a name.

When will you have wild dream in stock ? I think I requested to be on the waiting list for this one.

I'll check on that. I know 1 plant came out of the propagation area this week, and is now in a 4 inch pot. I think maybe there were a few earlier ones that might be getting ready to go soon but am not sure until I check.

I guess this CV is a bit more rare than the others if there are only a few coming out of the propagation line :)

Yes, Wild Dream is very rare. I only have 2 big stock plants of it. I probably should keep more instead of letting them go out but when they are on the Request List we tend to let them go.

I ordered it and I just got an e-mail that they just sold out just before my order was processed. You must have taken the last one! Lucky girl, I expect some fine pictures now :)

Kerry, that is a pretty good guess. I've always used Dragon's Breath and still do for making crosses. Something contributed the swirling white to Wild Dream and it wasn't momma Rosalind.

I have never seen another cv pass down the swirl pattern like dragon's breath or look like Dragon's breath except for its offspring. I was trying to win some rosalind x dragon's breath seeds off ebay but they where getting to high 48 bucks for 5 seeds  no thanks, with that moneY I could have bought Rosalind and dragon's breath and make my own seeds  :P :D

You mentioned you crossed WD with Dragon's Breath !  You must post pictures of that seedling !

I think your right kerry, it would make sense if the parent of this CV is dragons breath or maybe dancing dragon.  I would really like to see this seedling of wild dream and dragons breath

I've noticed the prevalence of the Dragon's Breath swirling pattern in ts offspring also.  Even in cvs like Island Girl, where it's not readily apparent but upon closer inspection it's obvious.  When I first got my Island Girl I had an "aha" moment rereading its info because I didn't know it was a Dragon's Breath seedling. 

Chris , 2 blooms should be opening within a few days! Let the count down begin

Another nice bloom.  Looks like it is blooming more solid coloration in your conditions.

I think wild dream is a 2-4 dayer bloom ! I went out of town and came back sunday with two blooms of wild dream they are still open they are trying to close.

A new look , I was very surprised to see almost no red eye  :o Its been hot finally outside. I wonder what this next bloom will look like since this cv is now inside. ( a new bloom should be opening in a few days)

Cool Kerry!  Looks like this cv is typical of those with any splotching... more shows up when it's hot.  I like this look of WD.  :)

I really like this CV, It has very unique blooms and complex coloration.  For me it has three rings of color (similar to bubble gum fun) but it is flecked with white specs.

Growth habit is Very slow, and it is lazy to branch.  My plant has had a few nice blooms, but it is only two branches and flowering seems to take alot out of this CV. 

This is an excellent seed setter for me, with every bloom having set seed so far.

Attached is a pollinated bloom of WD from today (WD x Bonnie Lass) 

The growth habit is why there are not very many Wild Dream plants in existence. I only get a little wood each year from a plant but I do like the flowers!

I remember Charlie saying WD is hard to get branching , Well I finally got mine to branch !  This Cv jad 2 branches for the longest time now I will have 6 ! lol

I guess you can call it force branching lol. I keep cutting the tips until I get branches to grow. I probably prune the tip on this CV 3 times already and I only cut a little bit off the top like one inch each time.

It took me a while to figure this out LOL  I been doing this to Cinnamon girl she is not giving me branches when I prune same with Cranberry muffin. I gave CM a hard prune and no double branches just one long one. It probably has do to my grow light bulbs being old for CG and CM because WD never branched when it was out side or inside for me  :P

Your technique is classic good old pruning and pinching as needed to get the job done. Some cultivars require this if you want them to branch more than they are naturally inclined to do. I think it was Chris who said that he planted a Rainbow Sherbet at him mother's house and that it then grew one main stem straight up to about 6 feet tall! Rainbow Sherbet is one that needs encouragement to grow multiple branches so this year I pinched the 4 inch plants of it repeatedly until all the plants had 3 to 6 stems before they were shipped.

Only a daring few like Kerry will take pruners to hibiscus to see what they can get it to do, but as you found out the plants do fine with strategic pinching and pruning and you can get better looking plants and a lot more flowers by encouraging branching.

Supernova will also encourage branching.

I have been having a bunch of issues getting my Wild Dream to branch, it is looking awful so it is in the hospital windowsill, along with Living Legend who had an unfortunate spider mite infestation back in January, still isnt doing very much :(  Treating them with supernova and my organic and sea weed blend which will hopefully let them bounce back with the weather getting warmer and day length, longer.    

Byron Metts however ha rebounded after a near fatal puppy attack, leaving only a little nub.  I am going to wait to promote branching on that one since its gone through so much already.

Supernova is what I would try, too. It can stimulate growth when nothing else is working.

The Byron Metts looks very typical for a healthy, fast growing B Metts. You will most likely prune it sooner or later because it is capable of growing straight up without branching if not pruned.

Yes Chris use supernova I have been using this along with dark energy and my hibiscus love it.

With WD it would never branch even tho I am using both supplements. So this is why I had to force it to prune. I have it out side and its getting real sunlight so it should grow its branches faster.

Yes, but it will be summer before they are available. It is a very good variety.

Jordan you will like this CV's its a surprise each time it blooms, It takes it awhile to branche but its a really nice CV.

I was looking back at your photos, Kerry, and they made me want WD.  :)
