Title: Wilt Disease
Post by: Nievesgirl on April 23, 2011, 05:54:41 PM
I think I just killed my Gator pride. It looks like it has wilt disease so i mixed 1 pint bleach 1 quart water on accident instead of 2 quarts water.  I rinsed the roots after I saw my mistake. I re potted it with new soil and gave it super nova.  Do you think I killed it ?

Kerry maybe I am wrong but even 1 pint to 2 quarts seems an awful lot of bleach, I think I used 3 teaspoons for a gallon. Hope you get lucky.

Hibiscus are amazingly tolerant of bleach. No doubt there is a limit but since it breaks down very fast in the presence of organic matter it may not have hurt your plant. It should not take too long to find out - please let us know. On the positive side it probably killed all the microbes that may have been plaguing the plant!

Good luck with it. You are doing all you can so now time will tell. The prognosis is never good following wilt disease but some do survive it.
