Everybody who posts on the forum who wants one is likely to get a Creme de la Creme this summer. Nice little 4 inch pots of grafted plants have been reserved for you guys. As for the rest of the ones on these lists, some are pretty sure to be available and I'm still working on the others!

I feel like we made lists for Santa, lol!!!  "But I've been really good this year...." 

Still waiting on Cindys Heart, I think it would be a great addition for anyone in the Texas heat.

I missed Saffron but picked up a Haute Couture, along with all the care stuff I needed.  The day is not lost!   :)

LOL  I was actually feeling kind of lonely while stocking the store. It was the first time no one noticed I was doing it!  But I'm sick today, and not moving too fast. So I'm going to go to bed and finish in the morning. No worries! Nothing more will be added till morning!

Kerry, there are a few more on there now that weren't last night... in case you haven't seen.

Cindy has had her work cut out for her with this update. There are some aggressive buyers out there and things are disappearing faster than she can send out waiting list announcements. Sorry about that but what can we do?  Some varieties, like CDLC, we do still have but will not put online so if you have been waiting for it you can write to her and ask her for one (4 inch only). Not many left now, and some of you already know you are getting one, but there are a few. She also has to make several new web pages in the store for varieties never sold before, like Cosmic Gold, and that will happen this weekend, too.

Wow Charlie!  I thinks its great that people want and appreciate all the hard work you put into producing these plants.  It is really something how fast these varieties are gone, kinda like beanie babies in the 90s :P

That's good to hear about Cosmic Gold, I like the pedigree and the pics Ive seen of it :) and My Blue Heaven... now hopefully I don't miss them :)

I also think the competition for certain cvs is a very promising sign... it seems more and more people are becoming interested in hibiscus hybrids.  I personally tend to look forward to the store restocking more than anything else I can think of right now!  I guess I'm turning into an old fart at 23 but you know that feeling of not being able to sleep the night before Christmas when you're a kid?  Then you bolt to the tree and scramble to unwrap everthing?  I don't get excited about anything like that much anymore, so Charlie and Cindy you guys are doing a wonderful thing.




Speaking only for myself, I just happened upon the situation and have been growing them for almost 2 years now.  I had never kept plants, and really have no interest at this point in keeping plants other than hibiscus.  But wow, are they addictive!  Something about the variety of different cultivars, the excitement of seeing a bloom you have never seen in person before, and of course the satisfaction caring for them and seeing them grow.  Hybridizing will be my next endeavor, probably when my plants come into the house for winter.

Very well written Jordan,i am the same as you and been growing for 2 years[wish i was 23 and not 53 though] and it i is a truly great hobby.I spend at least 3 hours a day in my garden two of them from 5 to 7am and while i am there i haven't a care in the world.
I think Hibiscus are not like other plants,you cant just leave them and hope for the best,to get the best out of them they need lots of care and attention,and i think its giving them this care is what brings you close to nature and makes it a fascinating and addictive hobby.

Wow!  This thread has produced some of the best statements I've heard about growing hibiscus as a hobby or addiction or passion or whatever we want to call it. I'm here for the same reasons, the main difference being that I was already growing niche plants commercially when I first discovered hibiscus. Within a year or so I dropped all the others and have grown only hibiscus ever since. They are very captivating.

They are fascinating plants, they have so many variations!  And I find their genetic melting pot something else :)

How can a guy or a girl not LOVE Hibiscus?  They are like having a two year old needing constant attention, feeding, love, and you can never take your eyes off of them.

This is my second year gardening, and growing Hibiscus it takes a lot of time to try and get them to their personal best.

I can't think of anything I would rather be doing.

I know how you all feel. I heard or read that Ruby Tuesday was going to be coming and spent most of the day watching for it but dozed off for a couple of hours and when I went back and checked the store it had been added and sold out. I'm just happy with the ones I've managed to acquire so far and I still have something to look forward to in getting the ones I've missed. Then there are all those incredible beauties we don't even know about yet that Charlie keeps creating. What a fun hobby!

It’s comforting to read these posts.  Space isn’t an issue for me yet buy it is for my wife…  Im not sure what’s going to happen in another year or two.

I missed Ruby Tuesday and Shockwave also! And I was also checking several times thru the day! Oh well I am definitely out of space and don't know how I will manage to overwinter everything! LOL

Cindy has been talking with one of our customers about a different way of making rare cvs available and I am starting to see it the benefits for everyone. Once we work out the details it should become easier to or at least more certain to acquire those cvs that stick in one's mind and won't let go. Probably will be able to go ahead with it after the next newsletter.......

Oh that's great news Charlie!  There's a little fun the competition but no fun in missing out on a cv you've waited for for a really long time.  I am interested to hear what the solution will be.  Although rare cvs becoming too abundant wouldn't be too much fun either, just my 2 cents.  To have that special cv that you've sought after for some time though is a great feeling!!

I understand your predicament Charlie, its hard to please everyone!  I think that one such way would be just to perhaps inform the people on the waitlist that if they want the plant it is reserved for 24hrs, if they fail to respond in that time period then the plants go up on the website.  The problem with the waitlist now is your plants sell out so fast that you cant buy it when it is available!  I think by giving everyone on the waitlist a 24 hr grace period to receive and respond to the e-mail is fair.  

This way there will still be some rare cvs that make it to the online store, but for the die hard collectors they still have their chance to get that CV that they have wanted for such a long time.  I am a bit of an impulse buyer myself, and its always fun to see new and rare CVs show up on the website once in a while :)

Oh and Jordan,  I would have missed Shockwave too, except when I ordered Ruby Tuesday my order came in late, so I was one person away from getting it.  Ironically the same thing happened in January with Ruby Tuesday.  So I got Shockwave as a replacement.  I think I was feeling big blooms this time because Shockwave and Strawberry Cream are in the Giant category :)

Chris that sound like a really good idea about the waitlist.  I'm an impulse buyer too, and almost bought Phantom and Raku when I got home last night to go with the Winter Lights and Pocahontas that I already ordered.  I probably would have gotten Shockwave if I had been home, as I really like the picotee effect.  Ruby Tuesday looks great also, but I'm trying to concentrate on multi-colored cvs.  I've almost bought RT a couple of times too, though.  lol  I am REALLY waiting on Ivory Coast; if I'm correct it is the last of the 4 sibs that were featured in the newsletter to be released.  Story of my life, lol!!!   :P

Raku is really cool looking.  I also figure that it must be special for Charlie to offer a CV with a common color scheme that is in a smaller size category than others with similar coloration.  I am glad that I got it.  Did you see Princess Ka'iulani'?  She is my new must have CV!

I just re applied all my wishes to the waitlist.  Just to make sure.  I narrowed it down to 7.  I hope it doesn't bother Cindy that I did so, but I heard that she might loose old waitlists due to computer problems and I really want a few more of these beauties.

Chris, PK looks amazing!  That's another that I probably would have gotten if I had been home before it went out of stock.  The bloom is really unique.  I've never really seen a white/red quite like that before.




I had another idea about the waitlist.  If there were a way for us to sign in and view the cvs we have waitlisted (so that way we remember them all), we could let Cindy know if we didn't need to be on the list for some of our choices anymore.  For example, I waitlisted a Heavy Metal awhile back and snatched one up at store opening in Jan, but got an email later this year when HM was put back in the store again.  The sign in list could even take it one step further and say "you're 20th in line for Black Cherry" or whatever.  Just kicking out some ideas.  I don't even know if that would be possible.  Me personally, I can't even remember all the cvs I've waitlisted.  lol 

I suppose you could take deposits on ones you knew would be available in the very near future (1-2 months). That way a person could be assured of getting one as soon as it was ready.

Lots of good ideas for the waiting list.... The real problem is when we have 3-5 plants and 30 people on the waiting list for it. But it's always worse with the newest cvs.  Over time, we do usually manage to get people what they want, but it does take a couple of years.

I don't know if you guys realize that propagating hibiscus has a lot of tricky aspects - like taking wood at its optimal time. We might have to wait several months before the wood is ready to be taken before we can even begin to start new plants from it.

But I never mind you sending in the same cv to the waiting list several times. It doesn't bother me a bit. It also doesn't bother me if I email you and you tell me you already got the cv.  I just go down to the next person on the list.

Still, I might look into implementing some of these new ideas one of these days when I have time to build the database, scripts, and webpages. Something doable for the future. It would be cool if you guys could access the waiting list, see what you have on it, and alter what you want. Then I would know that it was up-to-date.  Hmmmm.... better start planning it.  But don't hold your breath! I can't even find time to fix typos on the main pages right now. Yikes! But I do love the suggestions!

I actually like the idea of you guys posting a wishlist here on the forum. You can come back and change the list any time you want, remove things you get, add new things, and each of you can just have one single list that way. If I start a new topic for wishlists only, would you all be willing to add your lists to it?

Yes!  We should make sure to just post one time each in the wish list so it doesn't get too crowded and our lists get lost in the chaos.  Then we can modify what we want/need in our post as necessary.  :)

Looking at your list, Norm, there are several Dark of Night and a couple of Think Pink that are about to go up in the store today along with some other good ones.

Kristen, there's a Ruby Tuesday available from your list but you need to write to Cindy about it since it is not going up on the store today - good size 4 inch pot.

Lynette, I recently took some Strawberry Cream grafts out of the prop room and potted them into 4 inch pots. Should be ready in late August or Sept.

I'll keep looking over these lists so please do keep them updated so I can let you know what is available.

Yes, exactly!  I can't even find the wishlists in all the postings here. So I'll start a new topic, not allow extra posts. Each person can post one clean wishlist that they keep current with what they want.

The new wishlists you guys are putting in the new topic are PERFECT!!! Thank you!!!! This should make it much easier for me to find plants for you. Feel free to alter then, take off plants you no longer want, add any new ones. Then I'll always know your list is current.
