Title: Re: Presidential Affair Post by: Charlie on March 19, 2010, 09:23:51 PM Not too many people have Presidential Affair. This is the first year that I've had many of them. For me it is a unique cultivar, almost a novelty. Cindy loves it for reasons of her own, while I find this tiny flower with unique form and colors appearing on a good strong bush quite odd but charming in its own way. With the garden hibiscus 'President' in its heritage it was almost guaranteed to root and grow well, which it does.

Are these recent pics from you outside garden? If so, it seems as though it was a very mild winter in So Cal this year because the bushes look great! Title: Re: Presidential Affair Post by: Charlie on March 19, 2010, 10:35:15 PM It was a mild winter here with no freezes and just a couple of frosty nights. Even so the Pres Affair bush is a summer photo. All the bushes show some damage at the end of every winter. Mostly we just cut off the dead wood and leaves and by July they are all looking decent again and by October most look great and bloom really well.

Fall really is the best time in inland So Cal for blooming, since in the spring they are actively growing and summers are a bit hot, so fall is just right. I think our plants at home were blooming into January.

I have lots of Presidential Affair pics, since mine in the house blooms all the time. Here it is in the fall when it gets only a few minutes of direct sun each day - a mauve color: (http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/images/presaffairtwinsindoors.jpg) And here it is when the window gets a couple of hours of sun each day in mid-January: (http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/images/presaffairjanindoors.jpg) This is July heat in our un-air-conditioned house: (http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/images/presaffairjulyindoors.jpg) This is August -even hotter and more sun in its window): (http://www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com/images/presaffairaugindoors.jpg) Cindy Title: Re: Presidential Affair Post by: Nievesgirl on March 25, 2010, 10:12:37 PM Thanks Charlie and Cindy for all the pictures ! :)
