Title: planting potted plants in soil( outside) ? Post by: Nievesgirl on March 14, 2010, 12:33:50 PM I was thinking of planting my potted plants in my aunts Backyard but still in the pots. Do you think this is a good idea ? It would be easy to just take the pots out the ground when winter comes :)

Post by: davidwood on March 14, 2010, 01:37:05 PM Kerry i hope the answers you get are positive as that is what i have just done.I built a rockery and rather than plant in the ground i put them in pots and sank them,i also have large containers and rather than plant straight in them i have sank the pots.I have done it for different reasons than you[i go into detail in Hibiscus stories Growing in Vietnam] but so far am very pleased with how easy they are to move.

The biggest danger is that the roots will grow out of the holes of the pot and sink deep into the ground. The plants really do well when that happens but then when you go to take them up for winter the roots are broken off. That won't kill the plant but might give it some drooping leaves for a few days.
