Hidden Valley Hibiscus Forum

This flower reminds me of Strawberry Fields Forever, but it sounds like it has a much nicer bush.  Could this be a replacement, and improvement over SFF?

Who are the parents ?

Pretty good comparison although SFF has more contrast between the brighter red and whiter white. Party Girl is an unknown x unknown. I love the flower of SFF but not the bush, so it's been de-emphasized...

I really like SFF, but didnt get it because of the bush.  You were right about bushes, once you have great upright ones, its hard to get those CVs with less than ideal growth habits no matter how nice the flower is.  I am starting to find that Acapulco Gold's open growth habit, is about as bad as of a bush I want anymore :)

As far as appearance goes, bushes that resist branching even after being pruned are usually the worst. Those that want to grow most side branches straight out to the side  or that droop downward are also hard make look nice. Pruning and staking when the plant is young help a lot of varieties develop into decent looking bushes.

Health, vigor, and quantity of blooms are other traits of bushes that are important. Getting everything with one variety is elusive but worth striving for.

I have a thing for multi colors and splashes all in one.

Is this a fast grower ? I am so tempted to buy it but my bf will kill me ! He said no more plants and then I turn around about 6 more already LOL !

I need to start buying some bigger pots and take some to my aunts house when it gets warmer.  I also got my friend into the hibiscus and she too wants some. The only down side is I might not beable to hybridize the ones I want if they are in other locations  :(

Kerry, didn't your bf buy your first exotic hibiscus as a gift?  I seem to remember him contacting us and wanting to surprise you or maybe just wanting to do something nice for you. So now he regrets it, eh?  lol

Forgot to answer your question about Party Girl. It is a good grower, not super fast but not slow either.

Hmm so PG has foliage that reminds me of HOMH and DH, could HOMH be a parent?
