Title: Illuminati
Post by: helixturnhelix on August 20, 2009, 09:10:13 PM
Well I had my Illuminati bloom today in the car during my big move.  I also had a Belle twins :D  I managed to take a pic, which I will upload once I have internet again, lol.  I know that Illuminati's parents are unknown, but having it bloom right next to belle made me realize that it has a very similar and ruffled form Belle does.  Perhaps it is a SP x Belle cross?  It also has similar leaves to Belle, but one can only draw so many conclusions based on leaves and flower form :)  Just some preliminary observations :D

Chris, I look forward to seeing the photos!

Are you saying that you are driving across country right now? How are you posting to the forum - IPhone maybe? I love driving cross country, very scenic with the car/truck just lapping up mile after mile of highway. New day, new horizons for you!

Yup gotta love the Iphone.  I can't seem to find the cable for my camera, so no pictures for now.  Does Illuminati root readily?  I am thinking of cutting the one stem I have of it, so I can get some branch action :)

Moving is a pain, isn't it? Moving my plants and greenhouse twice in the last 10 years was a major pain!

Illuminati roots pretty well. It would be a good idea to cut any long stems on it to make it branch more, and there's a good chance you can get the cuttings to root, too.

I thought there were photos of this plant, however here is one of them. this plant was a 2 gallon size last year. it bolted and sent up 5 3 foot branches. i tried to air layer it and i failed. so i got even with it and cut it down to 6 inches. it came back with great gusto. i do not have a photo of the bush itself, i will post one soon.

here is the first bloom since i pruned it back. the plant is much stronger now.

I like the ruffles and tufts along the edges of the petals. I guess you could call this a picotee edge for those that are interested in seeing more flowers with a contrasting and darker edge color.

It is a vigorous variety - smart idea to cut it back and let it regrow.

I have been extremely impressed with the blooms so far and it has only been 2 weeks.  The amount of pink was much more than I expected and the bush is very nice too.
