Green tones are are rarity among flower colors, for hibiscus and all flowers. Most people think this is because the job of flowers is to attract pollinators and green is the color of leaves, not flowers, which could be confusing to pollinating insects and bats. However, for hybrid hibiscus with the huge palette of possible colors, green does occur every so often. This is due to genes passed down by grandparent Key Lime Pie to parent Creme de Cacao and then to Jolly Green Giant. There have been lots of flowers hybridized that have a hint of green but are more a muddy brown than green. The trick is to watch for those that have more green tint to them and then propagate that new hybrid as a "green". Jolly Green Giant is our newest variety with green tone flowers, and is an improvement over Greenie Meanie which was our best one for several years. Green Meanie is still good, and we continue to sell both but the huge size and very strongly lobed leaves (Fascinating Foliage we call it) give Jolly Green Giant a lot of interest. Both greenish varieties are sold out at this moment but they will be added back to the store in future store updates. Below is a different photo than what the info page shows. Notice my hand behind the bloom, placed there as a reference to see what a large bloom Jolly Green Giant is.You can also see the lobed leaves in this photo. Thanks for your very good information about the green tones. Also I Iove greenie meanie also. That photo of Jolly Green Giant shows the green tones very nicely. Do you have any other photos of Greenie meanie other than the photos in the description page. I love to see those pics . And amazing how large that Jolly Green Giant bloom is. If the cultivar is well established in ground for more than 3 years may be it can produce 12 inch flowers in favourable conditions, I think.
My suggestion is to cross Jolly Green Giant x Greenie Meanie and Greenie Meanie x Jolly Green Giant. so that we may get a very nice results...... Charlie Mr. Charles Black, I have doubt about the parents of Jolly Green Giant. The description page says, the parents are Pinot Noir and Carmel Dawn. But here you said Creme De Cacao is one of the parents... ??? ??? ??? |
