Title: Old Fertilizer
Post by: Kathleen on March 27, 2017, 09:19:25 AM
Last spring I bought a large tube of HVH Fertilizer and I have only have about 12 small plants left, I still have about half the tub of fertilizer left.  Is it still good to use?  Does it lose strength over time?

It should be ok.   I have used Special Blend fertilizer that was 3 and 4 years old and it seemed to work just fine.
The fertilizer absorbs moisture and seems to fade the dye that is all.

However, I had Acid Blend fertilizer that was 3-4 years old and it completely turned to a liquid paste with standing water at the bottom of the container.
I tried drying it in a forced air oven at very low temps across a metal sheet but it didn't work.
I tossed it out because 1/2 tsp had become a  concentrated liquid that I did not want to use.
