Title: Need help with unsightly weeds in hibiscus pots Post by: Bradley on September 23, 2016, 10:00:34 AM I spend numerous hours pruning and fertilizing about 30 hibiscus in pots large and small, and I am plagued by unsightly weeds in the pots. Pulling them is very temporary, and over time seriously erodes the soil in the pot. The plants are next to my lawn so this will always be an issue.
Charlie can you put real or glass pebbles on the top of the soil or will that cause issues? Also, is there something topical that might burn the weeds in the hot baking sun but not damage the roots of the hibiscus? A special oil maybe? You can use mulches of various types to discourage weeds or you can spray with standard weed killers like Round Up. I know it sounds scary but Round UP does not spread through the soil so if you are careful to spray it only on the weeds and keep it off the hibiscus leaves it should be fine. Another tip is when trying anything new on your hibiscus just try it with 1 or 2 plants first and wait to see how things turn out before doing it with all your hibiscus.
