Title: Is this stem diseased?
Post by: Bradley on September 19, 2015, 05:30:13 AM
I noticed a complete branch on this plant defoliate while the rest of the plant was fine. I cut the branch off and noticed this weird brown ring. I recall a post that the inside of the branch should be clear of such things. Does this brown ring indicate a disease and is this plant an eventual goner?

Yes, the brown ring inside the bark indicates a disease, probably fungal but it could also be bacterial. Sometimes the plant manages to stop the spread and limit it to that branch but other times it becomes systemic and kills the whole plant. Time will tell. Unfortunately there is not much you can do about this.
