Title: Your other plants
Post by: helixturnhelix on July 08, 2009, 06:16:20 PM
I am sure that just because everyone here enjoys hibiscus doesnt mean they dont like other plants too.  I was curious to see if anyone grows other things besides hibiscus :)

I personally enjoy carnivorous plants, mainly Nepenthes.  My favorite one is N. bicalcarata which gets huge pitchers and excretes nectar from its 'fangs'  Sometimes there isnt enough window to go around:)

I used to grow Morning Glory's I have a bunch of japanese seeds I never got the chance to grow them. I also had fuscias and few other annuals like zennia.

I grew habanero peppers too  ;D I just used some in my morning soup and now my eye is burning because some of the pepper was on my finger. I just rubbed my eye ! The other day it got in my nose lol I need to be more careful and wash my hands.

Right now the only other plant I have is a Anthurium that my boy friend gave me for V-day

Kerry,

I am pretty impressed that you can handle habanero in your soup!  I can only handle about one in a whole pot of chili :)  I've had terrible luck growing antherium, mostly because I think they need more humidity than I can provide them with.  I hope yours do better!

HHAHA well  , cut pieces of the pepper and add to soup and not the whole thing. I use about 1/3 of the pepper. and I never eat the pepper I just let it soak my soup with flavor lol

As for the antherium , I had it at work and it was not doing too well because A) ac is always one and B) my co worker kept watering it ! I told her not too but she would not listen she has an antherium also but its a different cv and its white it does not bud well because of her watering it too much. I took my plant home and its on the balcony I do not mess with it and barely give it water it is not blooming like a fool  :) It barely gets sunlight I have it just sitting on the floor. I will take some pictures it has about 4-5 blooms.

I've been collecting many types of plants for a long time. I'm a bit of a plant nut. My landscape is basically a botanical collection I guess. Inside the house I have a large number of house plants including about 20 African violets. Outside there are at least 130 daylilies and nearly 100 miniature roses. I also have several lantana, crapemyrtle, and salvia. The small greenhouse houses most of my hibiscus and a small cactus collection. The hibiscus come inside for the winter and have window priority. The trouble is I don't have enough south facing windows. My house and lot are small so everything is a bit crowded to say the least. I've kind of had that "I can always find a spot for one more plant" attitude, but I'm just about out of spots. The hibiscus are a fairly new addiction.   Good grief!
