If you wait until the seed coat has hardened you will need to nick them before planting for best results. Fresh seeds work best. Just don't overwater or keep the soil too wet - it needs to be moist but not wet. One way to tell is to take some of the soil in your palm and then squeeze it hard. If water pours out it is too wet. If only a few drops come out when squeezing hard it should be about right. If it's too wet the seeds will rot.
