Acid Blend

Hi Charlie,
So I'm running low on fertilizer at the moment and after looking into water quality reports for my area I am considering whether I need the acid blend or the regular fertilizer. The most recent data for pH levels and total alkalinity is from 2006 (although I just called public works and they are hopefully going to get back with me today with more recent numbers) The pH levels run between 6.8 and 7.8, and total alkalinity 160 - 210 with an average of 180. If this is still the case for my area would you recommend the acid blend? At the moment I have been using HVH special blend and my plants are growing vigorously and are very healthy, but things can always be better for them, right? I'm torn between this and the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy.
Thanks!
Jordan

Well done, Jordan! It always thrills me to see someone learn more about their conditions so they can understand better and ultimately grow better plants.
Your conditions are just the ones that the Acid Blend is formulated to help with. Slightly high in both pH and alkalinity but not really bad. Hibiscus are not super sensitive so you can continue with the Specialblend or change over. Some people alternate them, too. In winter when you are less likely to be able to flush excess bicarbonates from the pot the Acid Blend would be even more helpful.

Oh, that's good news. Now I will feel more confident about switching over. I will wait to hear back from public works and go from there. Thanks Charlie!
