Actinovate

Hi Charlie,
Last winter I decided to feed my hibs more and had a problem with wilt disease. This year I am going to keep them drier and give them Actinovate the organic fungicide. The package says apply as a soil drench every 2-12 weeks. That is a big range. What would you suggest for how often I should apply. They are in a greenhouse. I keep them above 45 degrees.

Hi Norm,

For best results I would go with every 2 weeks for the Actinovate. All fungicides are best as preventatives and don't show much success as a curative after the fungus is causing problems.

The 45 degrees is part of the problem. If you can afford to keep the temp at 50 or above it should help. But, 45 is a lot better than anything lower so if that is the only practical way to go then by all means continue with the 45.

       Thanks Charlie, maybe I will try for 48 degrees and do the Actinovate every 3 weeks. Do you know if you can add hibiscus food to the water with the Actinovate in it. I would like to do everything at once so the pot has a chance to dry out.

Good ideas. And yes, no problem mixing the hibiscus food with the Actinovate.

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but when used as a drench, is this a systemic or will it just work on fungal infections in the soil.  I'm trying to figure out why some of my "in-door for the winter" hibiscus are dieing back and others are doing just fine.
