A Hibiscus Club for the Southern California area is about to start up. This is a great development because we have never had a hibiscus group in Southern California. Look for announcements and more information here in the coming weeks. We will be posting how to contact us, when and where the first meetings will be and generally what to expect going forward. We hope to have our first meeting in August or September.
If you would like to help with the formation of the club or if you would like the club to email you directly with information, use the contact form at the bottom of the navigation bar at left to email HVH and put "S. Calif. Hibiscus Club" in the subject line.

It is with much excitement and anticipation that we will be holding the 1st meeting for the Southern California Hibiscus Society on Saturday August 16 at 10am. The location will be at the home and garden of Darren Eminian (Farmer D) and we figure the meeting will be approximately a 1 - 2 hour event with plenty of time to walk around and socialize for the afternoon. We will be honored to have the world famous hibiscus hybridizers and growers Charles and Cindy Black in attendance for our inaugural meeting. This event is open to anyone interested in growing or talking hibiscus and we encourage any family or friends who might want to check out the world of hibiscus here in Southern California to join us. This is a very exciting time to be able to start this club so the sky is the limit as we forge new horizons and connections with one another. Darren, I'm going to call this my summer of bad timing. We seem to be traveling at all the wrong times. I've missed out on the last two store updates because we were on the road and now I will miss the inaugural meeting of the SoCal Hibiscus club. We have a planned trip to visit Lynn's family in Minnesota for the week of 8/15 through 8/22. Please enroll me as a member.

Our first meeting won't be the same without the person with the biggest hibiscus garden I know of in Southern California in attendance. You are signed up as a member and the good news is we will be holding monthly meetings so we'll see you in September. We are targeting the 4th Saturday of each month with the exception August since school starts for many. Keep posting all them awesome pics!

Our membership territory is from South of the Tehachapi Mountains to the Mexican Border and inland to Arizona. Erny, it was fun! Darren ran it beautifully and everyone involved in organizing it did a great job. I think there is super potential for the future. BTW, your house as a possible future meeting place was mentioned!

Charlie and Darren, I'd be glad to host a meeting here. I'm still sick about missing the first one and looking forward to meeting everyone. We're still in Wisconsin visiting my wife's family. What is really striking about the upper midwest is the relative dearth of flowers in people's gardens and parks. It reminds me how fortunate we are to live in southern California where we can enjoy the flowers year round.

The Southern California Hibiscus Society will be holding it's October meeting on Sunday Oct. 26 at the lovely home of Brad & Beverly Daniels in beautiful Santa Barbara. This time of year Santa Barbara has some of it's best weather and what better way to spend a lovely Sunday than a pretty drive up the coast to meet your hibiscus loving friends! Take a break from all this heat and cool off with us in a beautiful setting... Hi There Fellow Hibiscus Lovers! The Southern California Hibiscus Society had a great time and meeting in Santa Barbara on a fantastic day for our October meeting. Those fortunate enough to attend thoroughly enjoyed spending time with each other talking hibiscus and making the most of a perfect day. A huge thank you to Brad & Beverly Daniels for letting us convene at their home and taking great care of us with some terrific food and Brad's great demo on white fly destruction. We will be having our next meeting on Saturday Nov 29 in Corona. So come on out and join us for a fun filled day concerning all things hibiscus. Also a great way to burn off some extra calories after eating too much on Thanksgiving. We will be having another hibiscus plant auction of some hard to get and very mature plants that are in fabulous condition. Best of all we will be making a special presentation for Charles and Cindy Black for all their years of dedication to the hibiscus community. Something not to be missed. A quick update from the Southern California Hibiscus Society. We just held our November meeting at Thomas & Anya Narolewski's home in Corona. It was our best meeting yet and such a fabulous day enjoyed by all. If you live in the Southern California area (Santa Barbara to the border) please feel free to contact us and attend one of our next meetings or events. We are tentatively scheduling a Holiday Celebration Lunch in North Orange County.
