Hibiscus Gardens Around the World
Kvanum, Sweden
How can one grow hibiscus in Sweden? Isn't it too cold for them to survive? Yet Yvonne has been growing hibiscus for more than thirty years. Her trick is to grow her plants indoors year round, talk to her plants, keep out cold drafts, and give extra light in winter.
A mix of European and exotic hybrids: 'Helen' left, 'Candy Manners' right
with the bright 'Sunshine' in front. Even indoors, summer means flowers.
In winter, when the day length is only six hours, supplementary light is needed.
Only 4 PM and dusk, but nothing dampens the enthusiasm of 'Rosalind!'
It's wonderful when spring comes. Here's European cultivar 'Athene' left and the
famous American hybrid 'The Path' right. Small pots mean frequent watering.
