Hibiscus Gardens Around the World
Bordeaux, France
![]() Greenhouse in France |
This is the hibiscus greenhouse of Any from Bordeaux, France. Her greenhouse is 10 square meters (about 33 square feet). She keeps it heated to a toasty 19 degrees centigrade (66 degrees farenheit) at night and 24 degrees centigrade (75 degrees farenheit) during the day. In the cooler climate of France, Any keeps all her hibiscus plants up off the ground. She maximizes greenhouse space with tiered shelving to fit the size of every hibiscus.

Here you see Any's greenhouse with an adjacent tent which serves as a cold greenhouse for her lemon tree and many more of Any's plants. Any's hibiscus have overflowed her tropical greenhouse, so she has turned a daylight basement garage beneath her house into more warm wintering space for her hibiscus collection. There are two windows that provide some light in her garage, increased by artificial lighting she has added. Her basement garage has a low temperature of 15 degrees centigrade (59 degrees farenheit) in the winter.

You can see here how Any heats her greenhouse. Her heating system is automated on the timer in the set-up photograph above.
