Common Sulpher ~ Colias philodice

Color: Pale yellow wings with black borders and one black dot on the forewings (top pair of wings). The greenish bottom pair of wings have a row of irregularly shaped dots in burgundy.

Size: 1-2 inches between wing tips.

Habitat: Open areas such as recreational grounds, pastures and parks.

Flights (Groups of Babies): Several from March to December.

Host Plants: Clover, alfalfa and other legumes.

Nectar Sources: Dandelion, goldenrod, clover, tickseed, phlox, milkweed, dogbane and hibiscus.

Special Note: Sometimes the Orange Sulphur and the Common or Clouded Sulphur interbreeds, and the resulting hybrid butterfly has orange wing markings.
