Even with weeks of rain and very little sun my HVH Exotic Hibiscus just keep on blooming away. Amazing!

Unbelievable! I can't tell you how jealous I am. I have to tell you though, since the weather cooled down mid October, I have had much better results. I have had at least one bloom on each of my small plants. Hoping to have more before the really hot months set in toward the end of May.

Glad to hear you are having success Kathleen during the winter months. Where are you located?
The rain keeps coming and coming...kind of getting worried now about too much. Getting some yellow leaves on a few plants and seeing more and more dry rot each week. But the HVH plants keep on blooming away...

I'm in Clearwater Florida...the tropics. I get all that rain in August and September. It (or I) kills at least a half a dozen of my plants every year.

Yes Florida's growing season for exotic hibiscus is Winter and Spring. Makes for a nice continuum of pretty blooms for all of us to enjoy as our peak season is Summer and Fall so those two parts of the country combined makes for one year long show.
Your challenge is the constant rain and pests. Talking with some fellow growers in Southern Florida over the past 5 yrs they have found that with the intense sun the plants there don't need much fertilizer. But the problem is that the frequent rains leaches the ferts out of the soil quickly so you end up having to replenish a lot and it kind of is the same as if you were feeding them a lot.
A very well draining soil seems to be a key element for Florida growers.

My Hot Fun plant is a good example of what proper hybridizing by HVH for many years has produced. Just look at the packed buds and lush growth on this young plant. What is most impressive is this is after many weeks of heavy rain and minimal sun all in the heart of winter. A joy to see and grow!

1st two blooms for Fiji Sunset. Large blooms with fine form this one should be a real stunner in summer.

One exotic hibiscus cultivar I recommend every collector to have is Simple Pleasures. The camera does not capture the vibrant and energetic colors the blooms always have. The fancy form and strong petal thickness completes an award winning bloom. The plant is very strong that branches all over the place and responds very well to pruning.

Huge Dapple Dandy fan - another must have for any collectors. This one does a lot of petaloid action making an awesome bloom totally mind blowing at times.

Wow Darren those are some nice flowers. Cindy's heart profusion is becoming a tradition this time of year.
