Root stock.

I want to try and do a few grafts, now I have heard mention Pride of Hankins and another I cant remember are good for the root bit, problem is I cant get neither here. So I was wondering if I grew a few cuttings of Chariots of Fire or Electric Orange which are easy to take, and then  use them later as root stock for other cv's to graft on to. Would this work ok?

HI David - how are you doing?  This is a great question that i am curious about.  
Let's see what the experts say...

Maureen it looks like it will be ok and I am doing fine thanks. I have just completed a big job all down the left side of my garden and just finished the final touches today.
You will see in the photo I have created an area where I have sunk these pots [20 inches deep pots] into the ground then filled the area with sand and covered with pink stones. At the back are 2 Hot Pepper cuttings and the mother at the front, I have 3 more HP cuttings to go in and then that area will be known as the Hot Pepper Corn er haha.

David, you can use any hibiscus as root stock but some are definitely better than others. The other approach that you should try is to use the local garden variety hibiscus for root stock. It should root easily and is already proven to thrive in your local climate.
