Charlie, can you tell us more about this cv?  I've been watching for it since last month's newsletter when it caught my eye, and saw it in this month's newsletter as well.  Fascinating how the podmates all are so different!

If Ivory Coast makes the cut I will definately be getting one.  Smiley

I really enjoyed that last news letter with all the different seedlings.  I hope that they all make the cut!  I can't wait for vin extrodinare to be released, those colors look like an artist imagined them, not a tangible flower.  Smiley

Ivory Coast is one I watched for a year as just the original plant grown from seed. It didn't have the bright colors that sell best but was still so very pretty in its own way that I tried to propagate it and that worked. There were several people who added it to the Request List after seeing it in the newsletter so it looks to be a go for next year unless something unexpected happens. I'm never completely comfortable with a new cv until its been through at least one cycle of propagation and then those plants grown to flowering stage.

Vin Extraordinaire, ahhh...... those colors are some of the yummiest we've seen. It has not been the easiest variety to propagate, unfortunately, but I am hopeful that we will have at least some next year.

Thats too bad that Vin is difficult to propagate, looks like the 2009 release will be postponed Sad  I am on the waiting list for it and will just have to wait till it is available!

I for one am a big fan of the unusual colored varieties (is it unusual for a hib to come out with the more 'neutral' colors of Ivory Coast?)...  either way I think the bloom is very pretty.

Hey Charlie,

Any plans to release Ivory Coast later on this year, or did it not make the cut?  Just curious, as I've been thinking about it since seeing it in the newsletter last year.

Yes, Ivory Coast made the cut! However, I still have only a few plants of it and could not release it without getting back down to 1 only. Hopefully it will propagate well enough that some will be ready later this summer but if not then it will be one for 2011.

Yay!  I really like the look of IC.  I saw Red Robin on there and have been crossing my fingers ever since!

Ivory Coast and its podmates share so many traits that it makes me wonder if I could graft them all onto one multi-branched root stock successfully. Wouldn't that be pretty - if all 4 flowers bloomed on similar looking stems?

That would be a really interesting plant.  Four sibs on one bush, that would be quite a site when it gets to blooming!

Unfortunately, no more Ivory Coast in the pipeline this year. The only possibility is if we find that we have more larger ones than we need and offer 1 of those. If it's on your waiting list and one comes up I'm sure Cindy will let you know.
