I received this sweet little plant in Sept, and boy has it GROWN.   Huge.  It is a beautiful plant. But.  it still hasn't bloomed =[

It is getting plenty of direct sunlight and is planted in the special hibiscus fertilizer//larger pot etc.    I will try to get some pics posted if needed Smiley

Any tips or advice would be most appreciated.   Thanks   Smiley

Doll thats just what Ps Purple does, If I remember right I had even pruned mine and re-potted a couple of times before the blooms started coming. It does seem to calm down once it gets to about 4 feet high, you will get a lot of blooms in the end though.

I agree with David - the blooms will start soon! P's Purple is a vigorous grower and has to get some size before she starts making flowers. With warming temperatures and increasing day length everything should come together soon for bud formation.

Every variety has its own habit - some bloom very early and others later. This is natural and nothing much can be done. High potassium fertilizer helps, as does warm and bright conditions. Another thing to keep in mind is that hibiscus plants make flowers on every stem so the more stems a plant has, the more flowers it is likely to make. That is why pruning the plant while it is young (or later, too) to develop more side branches is a good idea.

Thanks guys Smiley  I can be patient, I am just happy to know it's just this breed and that I am not doing anything wrong ^_^

Okay I am a newbie about pruning.  How does one go about with pruning a Hibiscus?  Just cutting part of the stem off?  Or leaves?

Thanks again Smiley

Lemuria, do you receive the Hidden Valley e-mail newsletter? It's free and you can sign up to receive it by e-mail once a month at the top left corner of every page of the HVH website, including the forum. The next issue that will be sent out in a few days has a big article on pruning, with all the details and some drawings to help explain the best way to prune hibiscus.

Hi =D

It's been awhile and my apologies for not replying. Actually I didn't think there would be another follow up so I forgot to check ^.^()

Well P's Purple did start blooming, I believe in June(?)    Very gorgeous blooms!  I was so excited when the first bloom opened, and I kept taking pictures of each new opened bloom LOL.

These flowers are so gorgeous it's such a shame they only "live" a day .  Good thing they bloom often ^_^      I hope to post some pics soons.

And thanks for the directions about the newsletter .  I didn't receive it but would like to. Smiley
